A Voice for Peace and Justice
The Life and Songs of Malvina Reynolds

Malvina Reynolds never stopped learning and doing. Born at the turn of the 20th century, she found that even as a well educated young American woman many doors were closed to her. But by the time she was in her 50’s, the tide was turning. She became a social activist and utilized her talent for writing to become a prolific songwriter whose songs were made famous by legendary talents such as Harry Belafonte, Joan Baez and Pete Seeger. Whenever she was inspired by an issue she wrote a song to argue her side. She became known for biting but often whimsical lyrics that may appear simple but contain essential truths.
In this program about a woman whose life was entangled with the social upheaval of mid 20th century America, Jeni Foster utilizes the songs of Malvina Reynolds in an exploration of her life and times. Audiences of all ages will enjoy singing along as Foster shares Reynolds very singable songs. And women “of a certain age” will appreciate learning about a “late bloomer” whose greatest achievements came in her golden years.
This program runs one hour.
