I am Jeni Foster, a lecturer and vocalist specializing
in songs
These programs are both educational and entertaining. They are appropriate for a variety of organizations for regular meetings, specials events or fundraisers. All are interactive; at least half of the songs in each program have sing-along choruses. The songs are set in the context of the historical narrative and are used to add an emotional dimension to the the stories. Magic Carpet Made of Steel: Songs of America's Railroads My Grandfather's Immigrant Eyes: Songs & History of Irish Emigration to America Mother Jones: The Miners' Angel Plowman Poet: The Life and Songs of Robert Burns WomenSong: A Celebration of the Stages of Women's Lives Sing and Tell: An Eclectic Mix of Songs Related to History & Literature BirdSong: Birds as Metaphor in American Folk Music A Voice for Peace and Justice: The Life and Songs of Malvina Reynolds A Mighty Hard Road: Songs of America's Migrant Farmworkers This is my favorite musical format because the songs come from real people singing about their lives and make the past come alive. Folk songs, in their great diversity, offer a running commentary on life.
